Super Simple Home Maintenance for the End of Summer
Dated: August 18 2022
The end of the summer season is here, and it’s not too early to start thinking about home maintenance. The hot weather can cause the exterior of your home to get damaged, thanks to all of the heat. Maintaining a regular home maintenance plan is essential to ensure that your house will look great throughout the winter and fall.
As the summer season winds down, it’s time to start thinking about what you should do to prepare your home for the fall season. These to-do items are simple and can be done in just a couple of hours.
Check the Gutters
One of the most important steps as you near the summer's end is ensuring that your home's gutters are in good condition. This is a great reminder to clean them at least twice per year. Doing so will allow the runoff to flow correctly from the roof and avoid damaging the foundation of your house.
Look Over the Roof
While you're cleaning the gutters, take a look at the roof to make sure that it's in good condition. If you see signs of damage, such as loose or warped shingles, it could cause structural issues and allow water to enter your home.
Caulk Around Windows and Doors
Caulking, or sealing, will allow you to keep warm air in and lower your utility bills. Doing so will allow you to keep the air in and keep the heat from escaping. It's also a great time to ensure all weather stripping is still in good condition.
Inspect the Backyard
Before the first frost, take some of your outdoor furniture to your garage or shed to protect it from the cold weather. It's essential to remember that the weather can affect delicate materials such as wood and wicker.
Give your garden beds and landscaping a bit of summer love by getting rid of deadhead perennials and annuals. Doing so will allow them to bloom more as the warm weather continues before the temperature drop in the fall.
Clean Out Your Trash Bins
It's also important to keep in mind that keeping your outdoor trash bins clean is a must. Small critters will start looking for places to stay. Use a spray attachment on your hose and dishwashing liquid inside to keep your bins looking their best. Keep them open and let the sun dry them out.
Whether you’re looking to sell this fall or just keep your home in its best possible condition, take the time to follow some of these suggestions! You’ll be glad you did when the cooler weather arrives!
